At the heart of Buda Art Residence was the idea of creating a deeply personal home where contemporary art is not simply added as decoration, but becomes an integral part of the interior architecture. Building on the generous ceiling height and proportions of the apartment, we created a layered and distinctive interior in which architectural forms, bespoke details, colour and art are in constant dialogue.
One of the recurring architectural motifs throughout the residence is the arch. Introduced in the entrance hall, its form reappears in different interpretations across the interior. Along the corridor, wallpaper featuring a rhythm of curved forms echoes the architectural openings, while bespoke concealed doors finished in the same wallpaper blend almost seamlessly into the continuous wall surface. At the end of the corridor, a custom-designed mirror wall takes the concept further: curved cut-outs combined with differently tinted mirror surfaces play with light, depth and perspective, continuously altering the perception of the space.
Bespoke design takes centre stage in the living area. Both the rug and the coffee table were designed specifically for the project, complemented by sculptural furniture and statement lighting that function as design objects in their own right. Together with the carefully positioned artworks, these elements create an environment that feels simultaneously residential and gallery-like.
In the more intimate setting of the bedroom, wallpaper becomes a defining spatial element. A cloud-filled sky extends from the ceiling down onto the walls, gently dissolving the conventional boundaries between horizontal and vertical surfaces. Its soft palette and enveloping composition create a calmer, more personal atmosphere, while carrying the artistic language of the residence into its most private space.
In the bathroom, preserving and reinterpreting existing elements became an important part of the design process. The original onyx cladding was retained and given new prominence through integrated lighting, transforming it into a defining feature of the new concept. The dialogue between the existing stone and the newly introduced, expressive sanitary elements reflects an approach where individuality is created not simply through replacement, but through thoughtfully reimagining what is already there.
Even the smallest spaces were treated as an opportunity for expression. In the guest powder room, deep, saturated tones and expressive marble surfaces deliberately challenge the assumption that compact interiors need to remain light and neutral. Here, darker colours, carefully considered lighting and contrasting materials create an immersive, almost jewel-box-like atmosphere.
Buda Art Residence is ultimately defined by the blurring of boundaries between art and everyday life. Rather than creating a gallery within a home, our intention was to design an interior where artworks, bespoke elements and architectural details coexist naturally – together creating a space that reflects the individuality of those who live within it.
