Less is more – Mid-century minimalism

Minimalist design allows our minds to focus, pay attention to the world around us, especially when we are distracted by social media and busy schedules.

Let`s create our unique interior so that we can have our own little universe – this idea was especially important for our client, who wanted to feel comfortable again in his home that had become unusable due to an electrical fire.

Our primary concern was practicality, which we combined with masculine elegance, so the motto of American architect Louis Henry Sullivan: “Form follows function” became our guiding line during the design process.

The perfect representation of this is the minimalist style, in which clean, straight lines, restrained shades and reflective surfaces dominate, thereby increasing the spread of light.

The many windows, light walls, well-chosen furniture, of which there is only enough to be functional without the feeling of clutter, are indispensable parts of the feeling of a light and airy style home. Creating the latter was a major challenge in the property with only 38m2 of floor space but remember: sometimes we have to lose space to gain space.

When designing a small apartment, it is important to eliminate awkward unnecessary gaps with purposeful carpentry, which we envisioned with an abundance of closed elements in the spirit of clean lines. The built-in furniture was complemented by low mobilie with simple lines, further enhanced by the high ceiling.

We spiced up this slightly plane interior design style with a touch of industrial flair. The Industrial style is still very popular in interior design today because it includes not only the raw atmosphere of factory buildings, but also minimalist, Scandinavian elements. We only evoked this special atmosphere with one object each, because these pieces can be easily mixed with other styles as well.

The carefully designed layout and the selection of lighting fixtures were also based on functionality, which can generally be said to be characterized by the combination of long and round bodies, also metal and glass surfaces. Nowadays, traces of industrial style can also be seen in contemporary interiors, which adheres to a simple, strong aesthetic and focuses on the functionality of the elements.
