Spirit and Soul

Many yoga studios are opening nowadays which offer a quiet retreat for visitors who want to escape from busy everyday life. Our client is a dedicated follower of flow yoga, who wanted to open their unique, cave-style studio at the foot of the Buda Castle.

During the design process our work was inspired by the tones, shapes and textures of Mykonos, where our client also likes to return every year. Our minimalist approach uses only the essential elements: light, shapes and beautiful materials. There is no excessive decoration or heavily patterned fabric, instead the few details used fit harmoniously into its surroundings.

When designing the reception area, we took into account the complexity of the functions, where upon arrival the guest can enter an open, busy waiting room, where the receptionist can control the greeting of the guest, the presentation of the shop and the creation of a pleasant atmosphere for those waiting.

The Greek architecture’s typical labyrinthine roads are reflected in the wavy spatial structure of the corridor, where the shop’s products are also presented on the uniquely designed brass frame system.

We have created two rooms for retreats and meditation, one for larger group classes and one for private classes. Inspired by the buildings washed with sparkling Kūkladic lime, we used a strong textured paint on the wall surfaces, which also runs up to the ceiling, and we balanced this coolness with the solid wood flooring, which provides enough warmth for those who want to move. The hidden furniture in the yoga rooms with their open and closed elements, and their exciting surfaces, help the playfulness of spaces, and reinforce the cave effect.

Arches and round shapes, which are also popular with the Greeks, consistently move through the rooms, which reflect the feminine lines and the mother’s embracing arms. We used low-key, natural colours that fit perfectly with light oak, ceramics or even the shades of cement, and we make it even more unique with calm shades of deep burgundy. The presence of traditional craftsmanship, organic materials and bohemian style interior design gives the space a palpably relaxed luxurious atmosphere and charming charisma. The earthy-toned colour palette is in fact an inspiration from the desires of a big city person, which with its deep, saturated tones is the answer to our desire for the natural.
